How to join a team challenge

Joining a team challenge

To participate in a team challenge you must become a member of a team. 

To get started, head to the Explore tab and select a team challenge.

Then, choose one of the following buttons:

1. Join a team

Choose this option if you want to join an existing team. You will see a list of all teams currently in the challenge. Each team that has room for more members will have a “Join” button next to it. When you click the button, you will automatically be added to the team. 

2. Create a team

Choose this option if you want to create a new team. Add a team photo (optional) and give your team a name. You can also invite others to join your team (recommended) or choose to do this later. Click "Create".

You are the team captain of this team, which means you have the ability to edit the team name and photo, and are able to remove members from your team. 

How your team score is calculated

You can check your team's points progress under the "Progress" tab. Click "Leaderboard" to see where your team ranks against other teams.

In team challenges, scores are calculated as an average of all members. The number of points you earn is divided by the number of people on your team at the time you earn the points. The result is then added to your team score. This calculation ensures that teams are not negatively affected if a team member joins the challenge late or decides to leave part way through.

For example: Yesterday Jim tracked an activity and earned 200 pts. His team had 4 members. 200 ÷ 4 = 50. Therefore, 50 pts will be added to his team score. Today Jim tracked another 200 pts, but a new person has joined his team – there are now 5 members. 200 ÷ 5 = 40.  This time, 40 pts will be added to Jim’s team score.

Points earned before the challenge starts will not count towards your team’s score.

How to leave your team

To leave your team, go to the challenge page and press the "..." in the top right-hand. Select "Leave [Challenge Name]".
